iTunes U and Media Mill

Information for instructors on using iTunes U and Media Mill.

What is Media Mill?

Media Mill is used to archive and distribute video and audio content and is offered and supported jointly by CLA-OIT and OIT.

Instructors should use Media Mill to create RSS feeds for course podcasts in iTunes U. Links to iTunes U course podcasts for credit courses are included in the My Course/My Courses & Teaching tab in myU.

Steps to take:

• Get a Media Mill account
• Upload your audio or video content into Media Mill
• Create a podcast in Media Mill
• Add the RSS feed for the Media Mill podcast to your iTunes U course podcast

Instructions

1. Get a Media Mill account
   1. Send an email to mmhelp@cla.umn.edu from a University of Minnesota e-mail address
2. Upload your audio or video content into Media Mill
3. Create a podcast in Media Mill.
4. Add the RSS feed for the Media Mill podcast to your iTunes U course podcast
   1. Copy the URL for the RSS feed from Media Mill
   2. Access the iTunes U private site and sign in with your U of MN Internet ID and password
   3. Click on the icon for your course podcast
   4. Click Edit Page
   5. Click on the Edit icon for the group tab you want to edit
   6. Choose Feed from the Type pop-up menu
      1. In Feed URL, Add the URL for the RSS feed from Media Mill
      2. Leave Security and Signature set to None
      3. Choose Daily from the Check for changes pop-up menu
      4. Add your email address to Feed owner email
   7. Click Apply to save changes
   8. Click the Save icon in the tab controls section to save the new group
   9. Click End Editing

Using iTunes U for Campus, College, or Departmental Podcasts.

Many campuses, colleges, and departments have access to create podcasts in iTunes U for their areas. To request a podcast that is for a campus, college, or department, please contact the iTunes U administrator in your area. If you don't know who the contact person is in your area, consult with iTunes U Support by completing the Support Request Form.
